Jay Wright from Virgin Wines is proud to announce that they are the first online wine retailer in the UK to be officially certified Carbon Neutral!
Virgin Wines take their environmental impact seriously and are determined to be a sustainable, planet-friendly company. Everything they sell started in the ground – be it grapes, grains or hops – so they’re acutely aware of the impact global warming will have on us all if we don’t all do more to tackle the issue. So that’s why they have been taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint and to achieve this major breakthrough!
PAS 2060 is an internationally recognised standard and one of the few officially verified routes to achieving Carbon Neutral status. Virgin Wines are the first online wine retailer in the UK to achieve this status and it’s a real testament to the passion of everyone at Virgin Wines HQ for addressing this serious issue.
On the road to this achievement, here are some of the green initiatives which have been put in place this year :
- Installed super-efficient LED lighting in the warehouses reducing energy consumption by 50%
- Cut emissions by 40% by improving efficiencies in shipping wine to the UK from around the world
- Installed a new warehouse system to remove printed dispatch notes from deliveries
- Reduced the weight of glass and cardboard packaging including cutting packaging of their Advent Calendars by 30%
As a result, Jay and the team are delighted to be leading the way in the industry with their sustainability ambitions, but they are also humble enough to admit there is still lots more to do. Their aim is to be fully Net Zero by 2045.
