A taste of England

A taste of EnglandBack in April we discussed the wines for the Royal Wedding and suggested that we should be patriotic at this time and drink English, and as we mentioned at the time there are some great sparklers featured in most wine outlets now with Chapel Down Vineyards in Kent being the choice for the Royal Wedding. Ridgeview from Sussex is an excellent example of this ‘new wave’ of English Sparkling Wines in the ‘Champagne style’. Same soil type as Champagne, same grape varieties, similar climate and the same method of production makes this wine a strong contender to many of the classic big house names (Grande Marques). At a recent Champagne ‘blind tasting’ we slipped in bottle of Ridgeview with some of the ‘French famous names’ and the result was a resounding success for this fine English creation.

Did you know?

There has recently been a meteoric rise in the sales of cheap wine produced in the UK known as British Wine, but this must not be confused with English Wine. British wine is made from imported grape juice, fermented and bottled in the UK. English wine is produced in England from home grown grapes - a major difference in style and quality to most British Wine.
